Woman Locks Self In Bedroom, Calls 911 During Home Invasion In West Bloomfield
WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) - A 45-year-old woman is shaken but otherwise okay after locking herself in a bedroom during a home invasion in West Bloomfield.
Police say the woman was inside her home on Autumn Ridge, near Orchard Lake and Walnut Lake roads, around 10 a.m. Thursday when she heard someone breaking in.
The woman ran to an upstairs bedroom, locked the door and dialed 911 as the crook entered her home.
Police quickly responded to the home and detained a 28-year-old male -- later identified as Dennis Ramey, of Oak Park -- who was sitting in a vehicle in the driveway.
Officers determined that the burglar had entered the home through a broken window, but he left the scene before officers arrived. The inside of the residence was secured and the woman was led to safety.
As police were tracking the suspect with a K-9 unit, an on-duty West Bloomfield firefighter observed the suspect running northbound Orchard Lake Road near the area in which officers were conducting their search.
Police from both the West Bloomfield and Orchard Lake departments approached the suspect near Orchard Lake Road and Lone Pine Road. The suspect -- later identified as 24-year-old Kadeem Jackson, of Detroit -- began to run from officers but was soon apprehended near Pontiac Trail.
According to police, further investigation determined that a bedroom in the upstairs of the woman's home had been ransacked and several articles of jewelry were found to be missing.
Jackson and Ramey were both arraigned at 48th District on a charge of first-degree home invasion. Both remain jailed on $500,000 bonds, no 10 percent.
