Woman Killed, Man Injured In West Side Detroit Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - As many as two dozen family members and friends gathered at the scene where 23-year-old woman was killed and a man was critically hurt in a crash on Detroit's west side.

The two-car accident happened early Monday morning at the intersection of Greenfield and Curtis.

According to Detroit police, the male driver was headed westbound on Curtis when he ran a red light and slammed into the woman's silver Pontiac Grand Am.

Police said the woman — who family members identified as Diamond Scott of Detroit — was killed instantly; her body trapped in her mangled vehicle.

The man, who was thrown from his vehicle, was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital where he was listed in critical condition later Monday morning.

After 7 a.m., WWJ's Charlie Langton reported that police were working to keep family members away from the wreckage, as some of them tried to get a glimpse of their loved one whose body had yet to be extradited from the car. It took about four hours for a fire crews to get her body out.

Both the north and southbound lanes of Greenfield were blocked off at Curtis for an accident investigation.

Family pastor Zachary Hicks, of the Faith Clinic Church of God in Christ, said Scott was on her way to meet her mother when she was killed.

"And they were supposed to rendezvous in about five minutes — they were one the phone about five minutes prior," said Hicks. "As she got closer, the mother got closer, she began to call her daughter; and when her daughter did not answer, she knew something wss wrong."

Scott's mother, Catherine Scott-Robinson, talked about the kind of person her daughter was.

"...She was my only daughter; I had three sons and a daughter, and she was my baby,"  Scott-Robinson said. "And she loved everybody. She wanted to give one of her kidneys to a young man in my church, and she a perfect match, and she was ready to go; and her life was snatched — so she wasn't able to assist in extending somebody else's life."

Said Devonne Mills, who attended church with Diamond: "She was an awesome person, awesome...very smart, real giving — like a saint, for real. She was a saint."

Family members said Scott was just getting ready to start a new job in Baton Rouge Louisiana in the health care field.

A memorial fund is being set up in her honor.
