Woman, Dog Found Beaten To Death In Independence Township
INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- The Oakland County Sheriff's Department is investigating a homicide that left a 30-year-old woman dead on Saturday.
Deputies were dispatched to the Cheshire Park subdivision, near Sashabaw Rd. in Independence Township on a welfare check. Someone earlier had called police and indicated that the woman who resides at the address failed to show up for work on Saturday and did not call-in ill, which the caller reported to be out of character for her.
The caller went to house to check on her but did not get an answer at the door. He reported seeing a child looking out a window.
When deputies arrived they knocked and received no answer at the door but saw a child inside the home. Officers found what appeared to be blood splatter on the door and then forced their way into the home.
Once inside the home, they discovered the body of a woman who was obviously deceased, lying on the floor of the garage. She appeared to have suffered severe blunt trauma.
Police later found the woman's husband and two children -- a 2-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy -- who were unharmed. The family dog also was found deceased, also the victim of severe blunt trauma.
Two baseball bats were recovered as evidence as possible weapons used.
The woman's husband was taken into custody and taken to Oakland County Jail. He was previously convicted of domestic violence in 2014. An autopsy is pending and the investigation continues with charges pending.
