Woman Dies In Shooting, Car Crash On Detroit's West Side

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police in Detroit are trying to find whomever shot and killed a woman as she was driving on the city's west side.

The incident happened just after 12 a.m. Wednesday at Ellis and St. Mary's streets, in a neighborhood along Joy Road just east of the Southfield Freeway.

Authorities say a 62-year-old woman, later identified as Vanessa Broadnex, was driving in the area when she was fatally shot. Her car continued for a block before it crashed into a house near Ellis and Mansfield streets.

The Medical Examiner said the cause of death was homicide by a gunshot wound to the chest.

Detroit police tell WWJ they are still following up some leads in the case but there have been no arrests.

Investigators are now trying to identify a motive and are searching for the gunman.
