Detroit Woman Charged With Premeditated Murder In Husband's Death

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 38-year-old Detroit woman is facing several charges for allegedly killing her husband and shooting her 8-year-old daughter during an argument.

Jacqueline Lewis was charged Wednesday with one count of premeditated murder and two counts of assault with intent to murder. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office also charged Lewis with felonious assault for aiming a gun at her 11-year-old son.

Authorities say Lewis killed her husband, Cornell, and wounded her daughter Monday afternoon following an argument at the family's home on Fenton Street, near Grand River Avenue and Telegraph Road in northwest Detroit.

Investigators haven't yet determined what the couple was arguing about, but say Lewis grabbed a gun at some point, fatally shot her husband and also shot her daughter. She allegedly turned the gun on her son, but didn't pull the trigger.

Police were called to the home and the girl was transported to a local hospital, where she is currently being treated for a gunshot wound.

Premeditated murder is a form of first-degree murder and carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison without possibility of parole.
