Witness Tip Helps Police Nab Dearborn Home Invaders
DEARBORN (WWJ) - Dearborn police say an observant neighbor helped officers catch two men in the act of a home invasion.
Police responded to a 911 call on Wednesday from someone saying they noticed two suspicious men parked in an alley behind a house on Orchard St. The two reportedly had exited their car, pulled hoodies over their heads, and entered the backyard of the home.
Once on the scene, officers approached the suspects who fled on foot, but were later apprehended.
Cornelious McLemore and Terrian Paige were both arraigned Friday on charges of second degree home invasion, larceny and resisting arrest. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety for and $75,000 for Paige.
Nineteenth District Court Judge Mark Somers ordered that each must wear a GPS tether if released on bond.
In a statement, Chief Ronald Haddad praised the witnesses who called police.
"Home invasions are a serious and dangerous crime and we take our response to them seriously. Unfortunately, there are often no witnesses to these crimes. Today however, an alert and caring citizen recognized a crime in progress and took the time to ensure the police were alerted," Haddad said.
"We appreciate and commend this citizen for the community engagement. Policing works best when citizens and officers work together to stop criminal activity. "
Both McLemore and Paige will be back in court for a hearing on Feb. 12.
