Wayne County Airport Authority Swears In First Female Police Chief

ROMULUS (CBS Detroit) - Detroit native Jennifer Williams has been sworn in as the first female police chief for the Wayne County Airport Authority.

Williams, a 28-year law enforcement veteran, replaces the recently retired Chief Edward Glomb to lead the police force that provides law enforcement at both Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and Willow Run Airport (YIP).

"Being promoted to chief, I am honored to earn the opportunity to help and protect travelers and employees at both of our airports," said Williams, in a release. "We have a great team here, and I look forward to continuing to provide an exceptional level of safety and customer service to the airport community."

Williams began her career with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department in 1986 and has been with the Airport Police for 17 years, serving as Deputy Chief for the last nine years.

She is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Eastern Michigan University School of Police Staff and Command. Williams is a Certified Member of the American Association of Airport Executives and is a mother of two with five grandchildren.

"I am confident that newly appointed Chief Williams will maintain or exceed the level of excellence displayed by our Airport Police Department," said CEO Tom Naughton, in a release. "Retaining a challenging accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for the last seven years is remarkable, and I expect that level of service to the community to continue with the leadership of Chief Williams."
