Waterford Man Charged In Shooting That Killed Woman, Injured 2-Year-Old Girl

PONTIAC, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A 21-year-old man has been charged in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend and wounding of her 2-year-old daughter during an argument at their Pontiac home.

Akiva McCray of Waterford Township was arraigned Thursday in Pontiac's 50th District Court on open murder, assault and firearm possession charges.

Judge Cynthia Walker denied bond Bond for McCray.

Police say 32-year-old Kenyetta Barnes was arguing with McCray Tuesday in a bedroom when he pulled out a handgun and opened fire. They say 2-year-old Ahmiyah, who was standing next to her mother at the time of the incident, was shot in the leg.

The woman's 11-year-old son, 13-year-old daughter and 18-year-old brother, who were in the living room, were not injured. Police said they aren't McCray's children.

McCray remains held at the  Oakland County Jail. He'll be back in court for a pre-trial hearing on April 23 at 9 a.m.

It wasn't immediately clear if McCray has an attorney.
