Warren Woman At Center Of Fatal Flood Story, Says She Is Indeed Alive And Well
WARREN (WWJ) - The woman who Warren city officials said died in massive flooding last week is alive and well and bracing for another round of heavy rains.
Thirty-year old Jena David was on Van Dyke in Warren when her vehicle started taking on water.
"To see water coming in my car scared me, and I was like, 'it's going to stop,' it never stopped - it just kept going. I guess Dustin Rowen, (a Good Samaritan) saw me and then he grabbed me out of the car, and he said he had a hard time opening the door - so then I got scared and just passed out," she sighed.
David, a student at Wayne State University, says her car is a total loss along with everything inside.
"My laptop recorder, my information, you know, all my stuff was gone," said David, "clothes, my shoes and when we went back to look at the car - it smelled really bad and the water was all the way to the top, so I was thankful to get out."
David was pulled from her car Monday and carried her into a nearby business where she remained unconscious until EMS arrived.
She tells WWJ's Stephanie Davis that she's divided about all the attention.
" ... but I believe that God always takes care of you and he's always there for you ... things like that, they happen for a reason I guess."
City officials said David died during the flooding but contrary to reports ... she later regained consciousness at the hospital and didn't realize until days later that she was the focus of the fatal story.
