VIDEO: Police Searching For Woman Who May Have Been Dumping Garbage Bags On Road
ST. CLAIR COUNTY (WWJ) - The St. Clair County medical examiner's office is conducting an autopsy Friday evening on body parts found Thursday in several garbage bags near Fred Moore Highway and Allington.
Now, police have released a surveillance video and hope it will lead them to a person-of-interest in the case.
WWJ's Jon Hewett reports that investigators are trying to identify a woman driving a late 90's Chevy Blazer, silver in color, matching the description of someone seen in the area dumping garbage Thursday afternoon ... her image captured on video surveillance at a gas station.
"I don't know how positive they are that that's the woman, but when I seen it on the footage it was around 2:30 that she was getting gas at and I don't know if that's the woman they're looking for, but the vehicle looked pretty similar to what they described. She looked pretty ... she looked pretty older. I don't know if she's just in rough condition or what. She looked kinda older and someone that didn't have it all together, I guess," said Erica, a resident in the area where the bags were found.
She says a relative made the initial discovery:
"She didn't touch any of the bags ... well, we seen what looked to be, like, guts, and also a head that rolled out of the bag," she said.
St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon offered this thought as to what might have led someone to do this, apparently in broad daylight.
"Panic...get rid of the evidence as quick as you can, and get away, I suppose. Kind of hard to put yourself in their mindset, whatever they were doing ... like this because it's not rational behavior.
Once on location, we were confronted by another citizen who said, 'By the way, we saw someone we believe dumping trash in this area earlier today' and that's how it started us on the possible vehicle and the white female."
It is believed the victim is a white male.
The discovery shocked people who live in the area. Michigan State Police are helping with the investigation.
