Vice President Mike Pence Travels to Michigan This Week

GRAND RAPIDS (AP) — Vice President Mike Pence will travel to Michigan to unify Republicans a day after next week's primary election.

The state Republican Party's "unity rally" is scheduled for Wednesday at a hotel in downtown Grand Rapids.

Republican candidates are vying to advance in statewide races for governor and U.S. Senate.

Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser said Friday that Pence will "rally our base, support our ticket" and help Republicans across the state to unite.

Attorney General Bill Schuette, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, state Sen. Patrick Colbeck and Dr. Jim Hines are running for an open governor's seat. The Senate candidates are businessmen John James and Sandy Pensler.

Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Brandon Dillon says Pence's visit makes clear that the GOP is embracing President Donald Trump's "harmful health care agenda."
