Verlander, Porcello, Kluber Named Finalists For A.L. Cy Young Award

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) — Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander has been named one of three finalists for the American League's Cy Young Award.

Joining Verlander are Cleveland Indians starter Corey Kluber and Boston Red Sox starter Rick Porcello. Verlander regained his elite status in 2016, after struggling over the two previous season due to nagging injuries.

The former Cy Young winner led American League pitchers in WHIP (1.00), WAR (6.6), strikeouts (254) and finished second in ERA (3.04) and innings pitched (227.2). Kluber finished with a 18-9 record, 3.14 ERA and 227 strikeouts. Porcello led all of baseball with 22 wins while posting a 3.15 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.

The winner of the award will be announce on November 16 on MLB Network at 6 p.m.
