Update: Jill Biden's trip to Michigan postponed
(CBS DETROIT) - First lady Dr. Jill Biden's trip to Michigan on April 3 was postponed due to a windshield crack.
The first lady was headed to Michigan from Colorado, but due to an aircraft problem, she was diverted back to Denver, Colorado, according to her communications officer.
A spokeswoman for the Air Force's 89th Airlift Wing told CBS News that the problem with the plane was a cracked windshield.
"The aircrew elected to divert the aircraft back to Denver International Airport due to a non-threatening windshield crack to mitigate risks associated with the integrity of the windshield and icing conditions at their destination," the spokeswoman told CBS News. "The crew returned safely without any injuries to the passengers or aircrew onboard."
No one was injured, and there was no safety threat to the first lady or her staff members.
She was supposed to be in Saginaw as part of the Biden-Harris Administration's Investing in America Tour to discuss the importance of workforce training programs, but her trip has been postponed.
According to White House officials, she made her first tour stop in the morning on April 3 in Colorado. She focused the discussion on investing in community colleges and hands-on training programs.
"Keep innovating in how you help high schools and colleges work together so that every young person in your city can take advantage of dual enrollment options and get a jump start on a degree," said Jill Biden. "Continue working with local businesses and unions to create hands-on learning experiences like Registered Apprenticeships. Invest in free job training opportunities like the one that's on the table right now!"
Biden made a stop in Maine and Vermont on April 5.
