U-M President Schlissel To Visit China In July
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- With about 200 University of Michigan students pursuing education abroad for credit each year in China, the school's president is heading to the country this summer.
President Mark Schlissel will travel to China to build relationships with the leaders of Chinese partner institutions and strengthen relations with international alumni. During his visit, Schlissel will talk with Michigan students and faculty who are in China. Nearly 5,000 alumni live in China.
"U-M has many significant engagements in China, and this trip will allow the president to learn more about those engagements first hand, and to meet and build relationships with the leaders of our partner institutions," James Holloway, vice provost for global and engaged education, said.
The trip will take place July 5 through 11. Plans still are being developed but currently include a visit to Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Additionally, Schlissel will visit the Peking University Health Science Center in Beijing to explore the impact of U-M's Joint Institute for Translational and Clinical Research, which focuses on cardiovascular disease, liver disease, pulmonary disease and renal disease research.
