Twitter Introduces "Offers" To Sell Directly To Consumers

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Twitter is offering shoppers the ability to purchase products directly through tweets.

The social media company Tuesday  introduced "Twitter Offers," which allows merchants to create credit card-linked promotions.

According to a blog post by Tarun Jain, group product manager for Twitter, merchants can send Twitter Offers which appear in the timelines of users.

When a Twitter user sees an offer in their timeline, they can add the offer to their credit or debit card in just a few taps through a button called "Get offer" according to CNET.

Shoppers would then use the card at the retailer's store, and savings appear on the credit card statement, the story stated.

Additionally, there are no coupons needed to redeem, Twitter states.

CNET added that Twitter stated that credit or debit card information will be "encrypted and safely stored."

Jain added that Twitter will be working with brand during the holidays to test the new feature.
