Tweets, Status Updates And Photos Flew Out Of Metro Airport Over Thanksgiving

ROMULUS (CBS Detroit) - The past holiday weekend was a busy one at Detroit Metropolitan Airport for flights and data transmitted by smart phone users.
During the busiest travel weekend of the year, AT&T saw an increase in data usage over last year across the country and in Detroit.
At Metro, AT&T saw more than 328 GB of data used during holiday travel during Thanksgiving Week, which is equivalent to more than 760,000 social media posts with photos. This was a 44 percent in traffic when comparing the total data usage from the last week of October to data usage from Thanksgiving week, AT&T reported.
Nationally, AT&T saw 234 GB of data cross our network on average on in-airport, cellular Distributed Antenna System saw across the country. Mobile data usage was up more than 24 percent when comparing the total data usage from the last week of October to data usage from Thanksgiving week.
The highest total for mobile data usage in an airport was in Northwest Chicago with 1075 GB of data used. This is equivalent to more than 3 million social media posts with photos.
AT&T stated that it has conducted network enhancements including 4G LTE coverage and a Distributed Antenna System at DTW – which are strategically placed antennas that distribute AT&T's wireless network coverage at the airport that provides better coverage to customers.
