Truck Rolls Over, Litters I-275 Ramp With Canned Veggies
BERLIN TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - A truck hauling canned peas and corn has rolled over, spilling some of its cargo along a freeway ramp in Monroe County.
State police Lt. Tony Cuevas told The Monroe News that it appears the semi-trailer driver failed to negotiate a curve Friday morning on the I-275 southbound ramp to I-75 northbound in Berlin Township.
The accident happened at around 11 a.m.
No injuries were reported, but dozens of cans of vegetables tumbled from a busted rear door.
The ramp from southbound I-275 to northbound I-75 remained closed at 3 p.m.; and, according to Monroe County Sheriff's officials, it was expected to remain closed until at least 4 p.m.
WWJ's Lorna Stevens said traffic was backed up to Telegraph Road. She suggested motorist exit at Telegraph to avoid the accident scene.
Cuevas said weather conditions don't appear to have factored into the wreck, which occurred about 25 miles southwest of Detroit. An investigation is ongoing.
