Troy Man Arrested For Hit-And-Run, OWI, Marijuana Possession With Kid In Car
TROY (WWJ) - Police say a 43-year-old man with a history of driving under the influence was recently arrested on several charges after officers pulled him over for fleeing the scene of an accident with a small child in his vehicle.
The incident happened around 8:20 p.m. last Friday near Bellingham Drive and Maple Road, just east of I-75 in Troy. Police initially responded to the area after receiving a report about a vehicle that fled the scene after an accident.
Officers located the suspect's vehicle and made contact with the driver, who stated he did not have a license. At that time, officers realized the driver's 5-year-old child was in the back seat of the vehicle, along with empty liquor bottles, a marijuana pipe and marijuana.
Police said the driver, who has several prior convictions for drunk driving, failed field sobriety tests. A blood draw was conducted with results pending.
The man, whose name was not released, was arrested on multiple charges, including operating while intoxicated -- third offense, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, failure to stop at the scene of an accident and child endangerment.
