Trial Set For Couple Charged With Murder, Torture In Death Of 7-Year-Old Boy
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A trial date has been set for a 22-year-old woman and her 28-year-old boyfriend facing first-degree murder and torture charges in the death of the woman's 7-year-old son.
Victoria Foster and Cory Rimson were arraigned Friday in Wayne County Circuit Court, where a judge set a jury trial date of July 7. They remain in custody.
Immanuel Foster died Oct. 24 at a hospital after complaining of abdominal pain and losing consciousness.
According to investigators, Immanuel weighed only 27 pounds and was covered "from head to toe" with bruises and abrasions consistent with child abuse
Rimson's attorney Christine Grand says the boy's cause of death is "complicated" and will be an issue in the case. She said it took the medical examiner 3 1/2 months to come up with five causes, including pneumonia, neglect and malnutrition.
Authorities have since removed two other children, ages 2 and 3, from the couple's west side home, in the 2200 block of Richton. Both appeared to be healthy, officials said.
