Trial Ordered in Macomb County Ear-Biting Case

MACOMB TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - A 31-year-old Macomb County woman charged with biting off part of her ex-boyfriend's ear has been ordered to stand trial.

A preliminary examination was held Monday for Danielle Nebelung in 41A District Court in Shelby Township.

Nebelung is charged with assault with intent to maim and aggravated assault.

Anthony Caruso, 36, says he and Nebelung argued early in the morning of March 8 at the Macomb Township home they shared, 25 miles north of Detroit.

The 36-year-old Caruso testified Monday that Nebelung jumped on his back, punched him in the face, and grabbed his throat before biting his ear. The bitten-off chunk of his ear was found, police said, and doctors have tried to reattach it.

In court, Caruso described said he begged Nebelung three times to let go of his ear, but she "ripped it off like a dog," and then smiled at him.

Caruso said Nebelung is a dangerous person, while she claims her boyfriend tried to rape her and she was only trying to fend him off.

Nebelung is free on bond. Her next scheduled hearing is April 14 in Macomb County Circuit Court.
