Tom Izzo spoke with The Karsch and Anderson show this morning about MSU hoops, recruiting, and a new project he's working on to help sports fans get organized. He also spent some time talking about LeBron James and his decision 2.0.
Back in 2010, Izzo was a part of the Cleveland Cavaliers coaching search. He ultimately turned down the offer to remain at Michigan State. He spoke briefly about the past situation:
"I was involved in the Cleveland job a few years ago the week before he made his decision and that was interesting in itself."
Izzo recalls recruiting LeBron when he was a freshman at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. He went on to talk about how far LeBron has come as a player. Izzo said that believes LeBron has matured a lot and is a good example both on and off the court.
This 2014 NBA free agent class is star-studded and has been grabbing headlines for months now. It appears that once LeBron makes his decision, there will be a snowball effect and lots of other moves around the league will happen. Izzo, like many people, are anxiously awaiting LeBron's decision and hoping that he decides soon. Izzo also hinted at where he hopes LeBron ends up:
"I hope he makes his decision soon and part of me would like to see him go back to Cleveland and try and win that city a championship..."
Izzo later went on to say, "I know LeBron has loved the Cleveland area and that is his home. I know how important the Cavs are to Dan (Gilbert) so if that's where he ends up, I think it would be an incredible story."
Despite all of the criticism for "The Decision Part One," Cleveland fans would surely welcome LeBron back with open arms. He is, perhaps, the greatest free agent of all time and will instantly make any team he goes to a title contender. Izzo has a great deal of respect for LeBron and is excited to find out about his upcoming decision.
"Whatever is best for him, I'm all for, because I think he's been good for basketball."
LeBron is expected to make his decision at some point later this week. The full list of potential suitors appears to be the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, and Los Angeles Lakers.
