Tigers Trade Their Minor League Pitcher Of The Year, Jose Alvarez, To Angels For Shortstop Andrew Romine

CBS DETROIT - Upon announcing the news that shortstop Jose Iglesias would miss four to six months with stress fractures in both shins, Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said the team would look to replace Iglesias internally.
Evidently, the plan changed.
Detroit announced Friday it has traded away 24-year-old left-handed pitcher Jose Alvarez, who last season was named Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the Year, for 28-year-old Los Angeles Angels shortstop Andrew Romine.
Romine batted .259 in 47 games for the Angels in 2013. He played 17 games at shortstop, 24 at third and four at second.
MLB Network's Jon Morosi reports that Romine is expected to share the shortstop spot with Danny Worth or Hernan Perez. Worth played in just three games for the Tigers last season and batted .223 in 82 games with Triple-A Toledo. Perez played 34 games for Detroit and hit .197 in those appearances.
