Tigers To Host First Responders' Day During Sept. 11 Game Vs. Orioles

DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers will host a First Responders' Day to honor men and women on the front lines of public service this Sunday at Comerica Park.

On September 11, the Tigers, in association with Major League Baseball, will host the First Responders' Day as Detroit faces the Baltimore Orioles.

The Tigers will celebrate the men and women of local fire and police forces and their dedication to our community through public service, while also honoring the men and women who lost their lives during the attacks on 9-11 and local first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Select firefighters and police officers will be invited on field to be recognized for their service to our local communities prior to the national anthem.

First Responders' Day is sponsored by BELFOR Property Restoration.

"It is an honor to remember and recognize the selfless dedication from so many men and women who proudly serve our country and keep our communities safe," said Sheldon Yellen, CEO of BELFOR Property Restoration, "for their service, we are thankful."

The national anthem will be performed by Aaron Pressel prior to Sunday's game.

During the anthem, the Dearborn Fire and Police Departments will provide a joint services honor guard to present the colors and a 300-foot American flag will be unfurled on-field; held by 150 volunteers from the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Julie Secontine, State Fire Marshall of Michigan, to represent all first responders.

The Tigers donated 1,000 complimentary tickets to local firefighters and police officers along with their families to attend the game on Sunday, September 11, 2016. In addition, the Tigers invited first responders from over 150 local fire and police departments in the surrounding Michigan area and Canada.

The game on Sunday, Sept. 11, starts at 1:10 p.m. and Justin Verlander is currently slated to be on the mound.
