Thousands Without Power Following Overnight Storms
LIVONIA (WWJ) - Thousands of homes and businesses are without power Tuesday morning after storms with heavy downpours passed through the metro Detroit area.
DTE Energy says about 17,000 outages are reported, a majority of which are in Livonia -- from I-96 to 7 Mile Road, and from Farmington Road to Newburgh Road. Another major outage is reported in Harrison Township, near Metro Parkway and Crocker.
Roughly 4,000 of the outages are Downriver, in areas of Riverview, Trenton and Taylor, as well as in Birmingham and Garden City.
DTE Energy spokesperson Steven Tait said most of the outages are due to trees knocking down power lines.
"It's scattered pretty much throughout our service area, but we're out there trying to restore power as safety and as efficiently as we can," Tait told WWJ's Scott Ryan.

Officials haven't given an estimate as to when the power will be restored.
