This House Is Being Watched: Signs Warn Would-Be Arsonists In Detroit

DETROIT (AP) - Signs are being posted to warn would-be arsonists in Detroit as the city seeks more volunteers to help protect neighborhoods around the Halloween period.

The city says the signs are being posted on vacant houses as part of the Oct. 29-31 Angels' Night campaign and say "This House Is Being Watched."

An event to promote the effort is Thursday.

Angels' Night has been credited with reducing the number of intentionally set fires at the end of October. It's a long-running response to what was known as Devil's Night, the day before Halloween. In 1984, Detroit had more than 800 fires during the period.

City officials reported 97 fires over the 3-day period in 2014. It was the fourth year in a row with fewer than 100 fires.
