The Week: Thank You's For Letterman & Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood'
This week, we say our final goodnight to a late-night legend and a pop star's new music video brings some star power.
Host of the "Late Show" David Letterman signed-off this Wednesday, marking the end of an era in late night television he helped create. Letterman's final episode aired Wednesday night and featured final guest appearances from Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Bill Murray and many others.
The Foo Fighters also performed their song "Everlong," making them the last band to play the show and closing out an emotional night for everyone, including other late night hosts.
Letterman has been the host of the "Late Show" for over 20 years. When asked if he would return to the Ed Sullivan Theater after the show was over, Letterman responded that he didn't know.
David Letterman will be missed, and his impact on television will definitely go down in history.
There doesn't seem to be any bad blood between Taylor Swift and her celebrity friends after many of them showed up in her "Bad Blood" music video. The video, which sees Swift as a superhero of sorts, is packed with celebrity appearances from Karlie Kloss, Selena Gomez, Kendrick Lamar, Ellen Pompeo, Mariska Hargitay, Gigi Hadid, Ellie Goulding and so many more.
The production and appearances must have paid off, seeing as how the video broke the record for most views in 24 hours on the music video site Vevo; a record previously held by Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda."
It would also seem Swift overshadowed Minaj twice this week with not only breaking the latter's record but also stealing some shine from the release of Minaj and Beyonce's video for "Feeling Myself."
Presidential contender Hillary Clinton has been getting a lot of love from the celebrities, and this week, rapper Snoop Dogg jumped in to share his thoughts of the former secretary of state.
The California native appeared on "Watch What Happens Live" and said the following about Clinton's run:
"I would love to see a woman in office because I feel like we're at that stage in life to where we need a perspective other than the male's train of thought. And just to have a woman speaking from a global perspective as far as representing America, I'd love to see that. So I'll be voting Ms. Clinton."
Looks like that's one more vote for Clinton and one more random (but well-informed) quote from Snoop Dogg.
Former "Cosby Show" star Raven-Symone is in hot water once again following statements about replacing Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with Harriet Tubman on talk show "The View."
"I don't like the idea," Symone said. "I think we need to move a little more forward… I understand history, I get it — trust me I was taught, I'm in that culture — but there was also Wilma Mankiller, Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt and Harriet Tubman. I would have personally chosen Rosa Parks."
Obviously, social media lost its mind and many called for Symone to be given away to another country instead. Ouch!
5. You Get A Degree, You Get A Degree!
Former SNL cast member Maya Rudolph gave the commencement speech for Tulane University's graduation event at the Superdome in New Orleans last weekend. Her speech was poignant but mostly hilarious with her infamous impressions of Oprah and Beyonce.
"You get a diploma! You get a diploma! You get a diploma!" the comedian joked.
Rudolph later sang the National Anthem to the class of 2015, impersonating the many singing styles of pop diva Beyonce. Rudolph definitely knows her strengths, and they paid off perfectly for this year's graduates.
