Teen Dies After Shooting Inside Detroit Party Store

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are searching for the gunman who opened fire inside a party store on the city's west side, killing an 18-year-old.

Police say the shooting happened around 7:35 p.m. Monday in the 11300 block of Dexter, near Collingwood Street.

According to police, the teenager had ridden his bike to the neighborhood store and was inside when the gunman entered through the main door and fired several shots before fleeing the scene.

The teen was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured.

Neighbors told reporters the teen might have been targeted after getting into a verbal argument a day earlier at a local jazz concert.

Police do not yet have a description of the gunman, who remains on the loose.

The victim's name was not immediately released.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
