Teen Dad Charged With Murder In Death Of 7-Month-Old Son
PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - An 18-year-old Oakland County man is jailed without bond, accused of killing his 7-month-old son with blows to the head.
Damon Honer, of Pontiac, was arraigned Tuesday on first-degree murder and child abuse charges. Pontiac District Judge Michael Martinez ordered Honer held without bond until a March 10 court hearing. If convicted of the charges, he faces life in prison.
The charges come after an autopsy revealed that Adien Logan sustained multiple fractures to the skull and died as a result of blunt force trauma.
"Crimes against children need to be prosecuted using the full extent of the law," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement. "There is no an excuse for abusing a child and I hope that justice is served in memory of this little one whose life was taken away."
Sheriff's deputies were called to Royal Oak's Beaumont Hospital last Thursday to investigate an abuse report about Adien. The baby died Saturday and his organs were taken for donation Monday.
Honer has been in jail since the weekend on a retail fraud charge. The sheriff's department says he doesn't yet have a lawyer.
Honer had reportedly told doctors he had accidentally struck the child's head on a railing at his home. The child's 16-year-old mother was sleeping when her son was injured, according to reports.
