Teen Brings Loaded Gun, Knife To School In Possible 'Retaliation'

WATERFORD (WWJ) - Authorities say a 16-year-old student who brought a loaded gun to a metro Detroit high school might have been seeking revenge.

Administrators at Waterford Kettering High School contacted police on Friday after receiving information that the student might be seeking retaliation after being involved in an altercation with other Kettering students the night before at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi.

Officers immediately responded to the school, searched the student in question and found he had a knife in his possession. Officers then searched the student's vehicle where they also found a loaded handgun. The student was then immediately placed under arrest.

Officers spoke with and searched the other students involved in the altercation at the mall, but found no additional weapons.

After the student was arrested, school Principal Jeff Frankowiak sent a letter to parents notifying them of the situation.

Police say the case will be submitted to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office for review.

The incident remains under investigation, and police are asking anyone who might have information to contact their anonymous tip line at 248-674-COPS.
