Ted Cruz Lambasted On Social Media After Tasteless Biden Joke Days After V.P. Loses Son
HOWELL, Michigan (CBS DETROIT) - Republican Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz made a stop in Howell, Michigan on Wednesday and may wish he had just eaten dinner and left town.
Apparently, Cruz landed a tasteless blow against Joe Biden, just days after the death of the vice president's son, Beau Biden, who died after a battle with brain cancer this week.
"Vice President Joe Biden," @TedCruz says to faint laughter. "You know the nice thing? You don't need a punch line." #JoeBiden

Cruz issued an apology on Twitter a short time later:
It was a mistake to use an old joke about Vice President Biden during his time of grief, and I sincerely apologize: https://t.co/pkcTLcXSP7

But not before a mammoth outpouring of shock and vitriol aimed at the mean-spirited remark.
You can be sure there will be more fall-out from Cruz's thoughtless comments -- aimed at getting a cheap laugh from the GOP audience.
