Suspects Evade Arrest, Outrun Police As Chase Winds Through Macomb County, Detroit

MACOMB TWP. (WWJ) - An early morning police chase that went from Macomb County into Detroit ended with two drivers getting away.

The chase started around five a.m. Tuesday when a Macomb County Sheriff's deputy saw a man running from a closed oil change shop on Gratiot near M-59 in Macomb Township.

When the deputy tried to stop the car and a truck hauling a trailer, the drivers sped off on westbound I-94.

Michigan State Police, Roseville and St. Clair Shores officers joined the chase which eventually stretched into Detroit. Macomb County deputies terminated the chase when they hit 12 Mile Road, and that's where State Police joined.

The suspects were last seen near I-75 and Mack on Detroit's east side when the chase was called off.

Police say the truck involved, a white Ford F-250 pickup hauling an off-road vehicle, rammed into one car in St. Clair Shores and was driving on the rims of its wheels after running over stop-sticks.

No injuries were reported.

A search for the suspects remains active.
