Westland Murder Suspect Shot By Livonia Police Officer

LIVONIA (WWJ) - A man wanted for his mother's murder has been shot by a Livonia police officer.

Responding to a call from Walton Street in Westland, at around  10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Westland police found a 50-year-old woman had been stabbed to death.

Police say investigators were able to establish that the suspect was the victim's 22-year-old son, and a search began for the young man.

The Westland police put out a BOL (be on the lookout) to surrounding communities, and a Livonia police officer spotted the suspect in foot in the 8700 block of Randy, in the area of Joy Road and Donna.

Police said a struggle ensued and the officer opened fire on the suspect, wounding him. The man was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment of what police said was only a minor injury.

Wednesday afternoon he remained hospitalized, under guard.

Further details, including his names of the suspect and the victim, were not immediately released. A motive for the killing is unknown at this time.

Police say there is no threat to the community in connection with this case as an investigation continues.

Joy Road was closed in both direction between Danzig and Hillcrest due to the incident, but has since reopened.
