Surprise Appearance By Jake Gyllenhaal, Eminem Before 'Southpaw' Screening In Livonia
LIVONIA (CBS DETROIT) - A big surprise by some big Hollywood stars happened Sunday night at a movie-plex in Livonia. Jake Gyllenhaal, star of the new boxing flick "Southpaw" made an unannounced visit to AMC Livonia 20 before a screening of his new film. He spoke kind words of Detroit rapper Eminem, who produced the soundtrack.
"It's an honor to have him be even a little part of the movie," said Gyllenhaal. "But the fact he gave so much to it, we all gave our hearts to it and it's an honor to be next to him. Thank you all for coming out."
The two stars each took about 30 seconds to thank the audience for attending the special screening. Gyllenhaal and Eminem didn't stay long, they both left the building as the movie began.
Gyllenhaal, especially, was a sight for fans, as his physique is center stage in this role. He famously worked out six hours a day, including 2,000 daily situps and an 8-mile run every day, to get in the best shape of his life for the role.
The actual fighting in the boxing movie was also as real as it could be.
"I will tell you this: There was that initial [hit]," Gyllenhaal told US Weekly. "It was the first time I really got hit. It was this moment where I think you ask yourself what you're trying to experience."
