Study: Medical Marijuana May Help Children With Severe Epilepsy
NEW YORK (WWJ) -- A study from New York University suggests a liquid form of medical marijuana could someday benefit kids with epilepsy who haven't responded to other treatments.
The study consisted of 213 people ranging from toddlers to adults, with a median age of 11. All of the subjects took the liquid by mouth every day for 12 weeks.
The drug did not contain the part of the marijuana plant that results in a high. By the end of the study, the number of seizures had decreased by more than 50 percent.
Researchers say they now plan on doing larger studies.
In December, woman from Mesick, Michigan faced child abuse charges after giving her sons -- ages 10 and 12 -- medical marijuana to treat the boys' ADHD.
