Student Dies After Medical Emergency On School Bus

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 17-year-old high school student has died after having a medical emergency while aboard a school bus in western Michigan.

Police in Grand Rapids say the boy had difficulty breathing around noon Thursday while on the bus after classes at Kent Career Technical Center. School officials say staff called 911 and registered nurses from the center's health care program helped him until an ambulance arrived.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where police say he later died. A cause of death wasn't immediately known. Investigators are reviewing the case and awaiting autopsy results.

The boy's name wasn't immediately released, although reports indicate he was a senior at Wyoming High School.
