Strong To Severe Storms In The Forecast Tuesday Night And Wednesday

DETROIT (WWJ) - Be prepared for torrential downpours -- There's severe weather in the forecast for Southeast Michigan over the next two days.

AccuWeather meteorologist Dean DeVore says there is the potential for strong to severe storms in metro Detroit both Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Any of these could have gusty winds, damaging straight-line winds, downpours that could cause some quick flooding in poor drainage areas ponding on roadways, and even some large hail," DeVore said, "so anything could boil up quickly."

The National Weather Service says that severe thunderstorms passing across parts of Michigan on Tuesday triggered a suspected tornado. The weather service said a funnel cloud was spotted about 8 miles east-southeast of West Branch.  The weather service says winds gusting to 60 miles per hour knocked down trees and blocked a highway in Crawford County.

Forecasters were keeping an eye on storms moving across the Illinois-Wisconsin border hitting the northern lower peninsula  earlier in the day, but that system missed metro Detroit.

Later, AccuWeather forecasters pushed the best chance for severe weather in Southeast Michigan to late Tuesday night ahead of a third in the forecast for Wednesday.

Meantime, Tuesday could be the hottest day of the year so far, with highs reaching above 90; and it'll stay warm with highs in the 80s into the weekend.
