State Police Search For I-94 Freeway Shooter In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are looking for the public's help in locating a suspect in a freeway shooting along I-94 in Detroit.

Lt. Mike Shaw says that several people were in a car traveling along westbound I-94 near Mt. Elliott St. in Detroit around 1:30 a.m. Monday morning when shots rang out and the driver was struck.

"They managed to drive themselves up to the hospital so they kinda used their head to get out of the situation that they were in at the time that it happened," Shaw said. "It was very minor injuries, they were treated and released at the hospital."

Shaw said that the driver is cooperating with police and is not sure if the shooting was random. Investigators are looking for information on the driver of an unusual SUV who may have witnessed the shooting.

The vehicle has aftermarket paint that can change colors from green to maroon to blue, depending on the angle of the light. The SUV also had large aftermarket rims and aftermarket headlights that appear blue in color when turned on.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Michigan State Police.
