Star Wars Toys Hit Shelves In Metro Detroit On Force Friday

NEW HUDSON (CBS DETROIT/AP) - The release of the new Star Wars movie may still be months off, but Disney is unleashing its full marketing "Force" behind the launch of hundreds of toys and other items related to the film.

The toys which were available at midnight were somewhat picked over as of Friday morning. The New Hudson Walmart had a large section of the merchandise including light sabers, action figures, Lego block sets, miniature scenes called Box Busters and radio controlled aircraft. At 7:30 a.m. only a handful of shoppers were in the store.

The Air Hogs X-Wing (69.99) was sold out, but a couple Millennium Falcon quadcopter drones were still on the shelf.

One eye-catching item was a 16" animatronic "Legendary Yoda" by Spin Master. This version of the Jedi Master boasts lifelike movements and voice recognition. ($180)

A new version of the Lego Millennium Falcon ($149.99) includes 7 mini figures including a grey-haired Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Walt Disney Co. is positioned to cash in on its newly acquired Lucasfilm unit with the release of "The Force Awakens" on December 18 and the holiday shopping season just around the corner.
