St. Clair Seeks To Establish 2 Historic Districts

ST. CLAIR (AP) - St. Clair officials are hoping to establish two historic districts to improve the odds of winning federal and state grants.

The Times Herald reports that the districts' boundaries have been submitted to the state historic preservation office for review.

A city study committee looking into the idea over the past year began with plans to preserve the St. Clair Inn. Committee chair Dan Lockwood says its recommendation grew to include separate districts around the inn and the city's history museum.

St. Clair City Council must approve the district boundaries and establish a commission to draw up the historic building guidelines. Mayor Bill Cedar says he expects the city council to discuss the historic districts at its first meeting in January.
