Spring Has Sprung! But Will The Weather Show It?
DETROIT (WWJ) - The official first day of spring began, in metro Detroit, with high hopes, snow flurries, and temperatures in the 20s.
But now that spring has technically sprung, can we expect things to heat up quickly?
Sorry, but no, according to WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dr. Joe Sobel.
"Well, it is spring but it's not going to feel very much like it over the next few says," Sobel said.
"The old polar vortex is gonna rally again and make another move to the south by the end of the weekend," he said, "so the temperature trend, unfortunately — although it's upward tomorrow — will be reversed as we go through the weekend."
Sobel said the forecast isn't too bad for Thursday and Friday, with highs reaching into the 40s, and some breaks in the clouds. Temperatures are expected to drop back down into the upper teens, though, in some of the northern suburbs in the overnight hours.
A little good news, Sobel said, "No big snowstorms are in sight, so I guess that's a positive."
This week's slightly more tolerable weather has been drawing some more optimistic folks out to Belle Isle.
Talking to WWJ there on Thursday, Sean Gibson of Detroit said he has plenty of activities planned for the season. "I'll get out here, enjoy Belle Isle, fish and run and swim — enjoy the outdoors!"
