Software Guru Wagner Starts Training Venture
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- Software expert Bill Wagner, who sold his SRT Solutions software development business to Grand Rapids-based Atomic Object last year, has launched his next venture -- software training.
"It's definitely what I've been wanting to do next," Wagner said Wednesday.
Wagner said when he was running SRT, "it was fun when we were hiring more people here, and my role was primarily helping them grow. But as the company grew, my role had to be more in business development and sales. And then we sold SRT to Atomic Object. They do a great job on those software projects, and their senior leadership is very good at business development. Now, I want to help other companies in the area find the talent that they need, develop that talent, from junior developers to senior developers, and from senior developers to architects who can build large systems, efficiently and with high quality."
Wagner said he intends to offer courses for 10 to 20 developers at client sites, "focusing on one specific technology, one specific piece on what their team needs with what they are building."

Wagner says his classes will share a common format designed to engage a participant through interactive learning. After explaining background and offering an overview of the topic, Wagner will demonstrate the topic through live examples. Then, attendees will participate in a guided lab and practice challenges to put what they've learned in to practice.
Wagner's initial course offerings will include ASP.NET, Visual Studio, LINQ, C# and lean development practices.
In addition to co-founding SRT Solutions, Wagner has extensive software, business and leadership credentials. A Microsoft regional director and MVP, Wagner is an accomplished author who has penned two best-selling books on C#, and is a frequent speaker on the topic.
Wagner is also currently involved in leadership of Humanitarian Toolbox, a non-profit focused on leveraging technology and skilled volunteer communities to solve the needs of response organizations and communities affected by natural disasters.
