Snyder Awards $8 Million To 11 Communities For Improvements

LANSING (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder has awarded $8 million to eleven communities to fund improvement projects, including water system and street lighting enhancements and technology upgrades.

The funding announced Tuesday is from a program designed for financially distressed communities.

Benton Harbor is getting $475,000 for property reappraisal and other efforts as well as $434,960 for water main replacements and fire hydrant repairs. Ecorse is getting $350,000 for street lighting. Flint is getting $2 million for its troubled water system.

Hamtramck is getting $167,860 for property reappraisal, $50,000 for City Hall security and $404,600 for street lighting. Highland Park is getting $2 million to improve its water system.

Inkster, Lincoln Park, Melvindale, Pontiac, River Rouge and Royal Oak Township also are getting funding. Details are posted on the state's website.
