2 Rescued After Small Helicopter Crashes In West Michigan

CALEDONIA, Mich. (AP) - Two men have been helped 80 feet to the ground after their small helicopter crashed into tree branches in western Michigan.

Caledonia Fire Chief Brian Bennett says the contracted utility workers were visually inspecting power lines from inside the helicopter when it crashed shortly before noon Friday, southeast of Grand Rapids.

They disconnected the helicopter's battery and fuel supply after getting lodged in the tree. No injuries were reported.

A crane will be used to remove the helicopter.

Brenda Hanna told WOOD-TV that "the helicopter was flying really low" before "it started to spin" and went down in the tree at the end of her block.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The Associated Press left messages seeking comment from the Federal Aviation Administration.
