Traffic Alert: Sinkhole Forces Closure Of 33 Mile Road

BRUCE TWP. (WWJ) - Crews are inspecting a what appears to be a pothole-turned-sinkhole in Macomb County.

Officials have closed the 33 Mile Road bridge over the Farley Drain -- in Bruce Township -- because of a 3-foot by 3-foot hole in the bridge deck. It's located in an area between Powell and McFadden roads.

"The sinkhole itself on 33 Mile is small but they're worried about it getting larger," WWJ's Bill Szumanski reported from above the scene in Chopper 950. "So, what they've done is completely shut down 33 Mile Road with barricades and engineers are now starting to take their measurements."

It's unclear how long the road will remain closed.

For the latest from the roads, stay with WWJ Newsradio 950 during Traffic and Weather on the 8s, 24-hours a day. Check for recent incidents now on the CBS Detroit Traffic Page.
