Semi-Truck Goes Off I-96, Crashes Into Retention Pond [PHOTOS]

NOVI (WWJ) - A truck driver was briefly stranded on his waterlogged semi after it crashed into a retention pond off of I-96 in Novi.

The accident happened early Wednesday morning off westbound I-96 between Novi and Beck roads.

The driver apparently lost control of the truck, which went off of the freeway and landed on its side on the edge of a retention pond. Emergency crews responded to the scene and used an inflatable boat to rescue the driver, who was standing on the truck's fuel tanks. He was uninjured.

By 8:30 a.m. crews had made progress in cleaning up the wreck and were able to pull the truck out of the pond.

Motorists are getting by the scene in the left lane only. The right two lanes are blocked. Traffic is backed up for at least a mile.
