Semi Hauling Thousands Of Pounds Of Hamburger Crashes, Catches Fire On I-94

JACKSON (WWJ) - Talk about flame-broiled.

Police say a semi-truck that was hauling thousands of pounds of hamburger meat crashed and caught fire on I-94 in Jackson Thursday morning.

Authorities with the Blackman-Leoni Township Public Safety Department say the semi was headed eastbound on I-94 near Airport Road around 4:30 a.m. when it crossed the median and crashed in the westbound lanes.

The gas tanks on the semi caught fire and flames quickly spread through the truck, burning it and all of its contents to a crisp.

No other cars were hit, but police say the truck driver did sustain minor injuries.

An investigation is underway to determine what caused the driver to cross the median.

Westbound I-94 remains closed near US-127 as crews continue to clean up the charred meat and what is left of the semi. It's unclear how long the closure will last.
