Search Warrant Executed In April Millsap Murder Case
WALES TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Authorities are searching a home in Wales Township — in St. Clair County — as part of the investigation into the murder of Armada teen April Millsap.
Talking to WWJ Newsradio 950 early Monday afternoon, Michigan State Police Lieutenant Mike Shaw said a search warrant is being executed in connection with the investigation.
Reports said the area around the home, in the 8700 block of Marquette in Goodells — an unincorporated community in the northern part of Wales Township — was secured with crime scene tape as the FBI searched the house and property.
The search is at the same home on Marquette Street where a convicted sex offender and his son were arrested on drug charges in late July. Rhonda O'Donnell lives a few doors down and said there were helicopters and police in the area since 9 a.m.
"They were overhead most of the day and you could see them searching," O'Donnell said. "They also had local fire departments all volunteer for the search. [They searched] in the house, in the cornfields, the next-door neighbor --they searched his property, his barn and house and everything."
Shaw said no additional information is being released at this time.
"They re-searched the whole house and the back of the property," O'Donnell said. "Whatever they're looking for, I guess they got a really good tip."
Millsap's mother, Jennifer Millsap, declined to comment told WWJ on Monday's search.
Millsap, 14, was found dead near a wooded trail on July 24.
Millsap was reported missing by her mother – after she failed to return home from walking her dog, Penny, which she did nearly every night. Her body was found hours later by a couple walking the Macomb Orchard Trail near Fulton and Depot roads.
According to the death certificate filed with the Macomb County Clerk's Office, the teen died of blunt head trauma and asphyxia due to neck compression.
State police have said they have no suspects in custody; and if they have any strong leads, they haven't shared them with the media.
