School Bus, Semi-Trucks Involved In 7 Vehicle Pile-Up On I-94 [PHOTO]

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police have shut down the eastbound lanes of I-94 in Detroit after seven vehicles were involved in a pile-up crash, including a school bus.

The accident happened Wednesday morning on I-94 just east Van Dyke Avenue on the city's east side.

Circumstances surrounding the crash weren't immediately clear, but icy roads are a suspected factor.

The school bus was in transit at the time of the accident, according to a Detroit Public Schools spokesperson, and no students were onboard.

Police say the only injury was to a semi-trick driver, who was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation. Motorists are urged to avoid the area until further notice. It's not clear how long the freeway will remain closed.

Santino Fisher, who lives along the freeway, said he witnessed four accidents Wednesday morning alone.

"People really can't drive, that's what people got to understand, everybody can't drive," he said. "Like, you know how many people this is their first winter driving? Honestly. Everybody thinks they know how to drive but now you've got to really drive -- it's a whole different ballpark."
