Sanchez Roughed Up As Phillies Top Tigers, 5-4, In Split-Squad Game

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Anibal Sanchez was roughed up for the second time this spring, allowing two home runs to Brian Bogusevic as the split-squad Detroit Tigers lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 Saturday.
Sanchez gave up four runs on four hits and a walk in four innings, and has a 6.48 ERA after three outings.
"I was working on things and I was working hard on my breaking ball," Sanchez said. "I was doing what I felt I had to do, getting my arm strength up. I was just throwing for strikes and trying to go four innings."
Sanchez said there is no cause for concern. He is a solid lock in the Tigers' rotation and said he feels fine.
"Nothing is bothering me," Sanchez said. "It's just spring training. It's just time to get ready for the season."
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus also isn't worried.
"He was good today," Ausmus said. "I like what I've seen from him. He'll be ready."
Struggling Tigers reliever Joe Nathan pitched a scoreless inning.
Phillies starter Paul Clemens gave up three runs on three hits and four runs in 2 1-3 innings.
Jefry Marte homered for the Tigers. The Phillies scored the go-ahead run in the ninth when Russ Canzler scored on a passed ball.
STARTING TIME
Phillies: Clemens had pitched four scoreless innings earlier this spring. He is up for one of the final spots in the Phillies' rotation and manager Ryne Sandberg said there's plenty of time to state his case.
"For now he just needs to establish his strike zone," Sandberg said. "He hasn't been rattled out there at all."
TRAINER'S ROOM
Phillies: OF Jeff Francoeur was a late scratch with mild soreness in his left oblique. He is day-to-day. ... Aaron Harang was expected to make his second start of the spring, but was previously scratched due to lower back discomfort. He is also day-to-day.
Tigers: 2B Ian Kinsler was scratched from the lineup with a sore right shoulder. He is day-to-day. ... SS Jose Iglesias sat out after playing two straight days. He is recovering from stress fractures in both shins that kept him out of all of 2014. Ausmus said it is just precautionary. ... DH Victor Martinez and slugger Miguel Cabrera are nearing a return to the lineup. Neither one has played this spring, but both ran the bases prior to Saturday's game. ... Ausmus said he is hopeful that OF Yoenis Cespedes (left quad) and C Alex Avila (lower back stiffness) can be ready to play by Monday.
UP NEXT
Phillies: On a split-squad day, Sean O'Sullivan pitches against the Yankees in Tampa and Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez starts vs. Boston.
Tigers: Alfredo Simon will make his third start of the spring, facing the Miami Marlins. Simon has not allowed a run in five innings this spring.
