Saginaw Spirit Game Postponed After Player's Death
SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - A Saginaw Spirit minor league hockey team game has been postponed following the death of 20-year-old player Terry Trafford.
A posting on the team's website announced the change for Wednesday night's home game against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. The Saginaw News reports the Ontario Hockey League postponed the game.
The teams are scheduled to play Friday night in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Saginaw Spirit confirmed Tuesday that police found the body of Trafford, who disappeared eight days earlier after receiving discipline from the club. The Toronto native was last seen March 3 at the Dow Event Center, the club's home arena.
In a statement, OHL Commissioner David Branch says it's a "tragic situation." He says the league will work with teams to provide any needed support.
